Let’s start with the ICW Fight Club from June 11th 2020. The Inaugural Lionheart League to determine the Number 1 contender for the ICW World Heavyweight title kicks off with ICW’s Zero-G Champion, The Bad Boy Liam Thompson Taking on one-half of the ICW Tag Team The Purge, The Outlaw, Stevie James. I have personally trained with Stevie James in my time at the Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum (GPWA) and this man has a drop kick that one can only describe as artistic. Billy Kirkwood and James R. Kennedy will call the show tonight. Honestly, It has been too long since I have heard these theme songs and seen these men enter from that black curtain. It fills me with a joyous sense of pride that this is a promotion so close to home, literally. There may not be a crowd and there isn’t a Thunderdome either but the camera work on this show makes up for the silence. The match starts with great holds from both men and even smoother looking reversals. LT hits James with a mean shoulder tackle but The Outlaw shoots to his feet in the blink of an eye. Commentary does a tremendous job at recapping the viewers of the last storylines and even helps fill in the blank for anyone who is brand-new to the promotion thanks to WWE uploading these shows to the network. Stevie James has great selling for all of Thompson’s submission holds. Liam Thompson is presented as a real powerhouse during this first match. Beautiful sunset flip from LT but James kicks out at 2. Liam Thompson goes back to locking in the arm bar to a grounded James. I cannot up James’ selling enough in this match, fantastic. BOOM, Stevie James hits LT with that artistic Drop Kick I referred to earlier. I beg you to watch this match just for that Drop Kick. James gets LT right in the corner and hits him with a gorgeous chop and without a crowd the chop is amplified tenfold. Thompson kicks out of a Slam at 2 and goes for the momentum shifting comeback. Off the ropes and James tries for a Drop Kick but LT moves out of the way and James drops down hard on the mat. A Drop Kick from Thompson to an incapacitated James but James cashes in the receipt and gets LT right back with his own. Liam Thompson locks in the Cross Face submission but James manages tpo revers it into a pin. LT kicks out. We approach the 16th minute of the 20 minute time limit of the match. LT from the second rope hits James with a Back Stabber and locks in the Cross face again for a Submission victory over The Outlaw. Great match, Great performance and Great to be back.
Here comes Kez Evans, the Square Go contract winner. Evans sets up a chair and grabs a mic. He talks about how he should feel happy about being back in a ring and after seven months he should be happy. He kicks the chair away behind him “but I am fucking no!” He tells us how he is not in the Lionheart league and Carmel has been punishing him because of her dislike towards him. He makes his case known that his briefcase has a timescale on it but due to lockdown that he should have a six-month extension. He makes a good point and it’s a great and powerful start to a good storyline.
Alex Parker backstage promo. The lad comes across as green but dedicated and I see potential of future stardom even beyond ICW. Couple years and I can guarantee this kid will be on NXT UK.
Luke Kyro now faces off against Kyle Khaos. I have trained with Kyle Khaos and he knows how to make the crowd hate him. Good technical work from both of these young guys. Mean looking spine across the knee from Khaos and Luke Kyro sells really well. Great reversal into a Cross Rhodes then 1..2..3 Kyro wins. Good performance from both and it was good to see Khaos back in action.
Charlie Vyce backstage, he tells us his story and how far he has come from his last in-ring performance against Craig Antony. It’s good to have moments like these to remind people and the fans where our favourite wrestlers have been.
Women’s division now, Anastasia takes on Angel Hayes. Most companies have a hard time really showcasing their female competitors but ICW have never really had that issue and the commentators make sure that the interest is still there after all this time. Anastasia comes across as a dominant force in this match and really shows off her strength in this match. Angel Hayes shows a great ability in her selling and her agility as well. Anastasia hits a really high big boot straight to Hayes’ face. There is a moment where Anstasia looks right at the camera while choking out Hayes and she has a stare that penetrates the soul. She slams Angel Hayes to the mat while never releasing this hold around Hayes’ neck. Hayes hits an awesome looking Slingblade that has so much momentum behind it. Fall away slam from Anastasia gets a close two count. Hayes wins the match with a roll-up pin. Good performance from both women here. Well done.
Ian Skinner ups himself for his match against A.D.M. (Alexander Darwin MacAllan) ‘The Clyde River Killer’. What a look this guy has when he comes out. ADM is very cool looking and has an atmosphere about him that says, “Fuck with me and you will regret it”. Kick-Ass Ian Skinner is out next and his entrance here would pop a crowd anywhere. Skinner is fast in this match but ADM is more than capable of slowing his ass down. Nothing against Ian Skinner but I would cheer for ADM kicking Skinner square in the face. That’s just who I am and what I like. As optimistic as Skinner is being during this match ADM drops him on his head but Skinner kicks out at a close 2 count showing his resiliency here. ADM’s facial expressions are great heel work. Big piledriver from ADM gets him the win. ADM isn’t done yet, he grabs Skinner in a rear choke and refuses to release. The guy is very cool and hopefully once he moves to NXT UK, which I am sure lies in his future, Vince doesn’t get his wrinkly paws on his name.
Angel Hayes tries to comment on her victory but Molly Spartan ain’t having none of her pish. The match is set for next week. Not seen Spartan in action in a while. Looking forward to it.
Up now is Alex Parker from earlier in action against Charlie Vyce ‘The Party Animal’. Kirkwood comments that he pisses champagne and farts party poppers. Not bad Billy, not bad. Unfortunately it was a quick match between the two but we did get some good technical wrestling and some really smooth lock-ups. Parker hits Vyce with a nice, nice high knee move and followed that up with a 5-Star Frog Splash for the win. I look forward to seeing these two some more.
ADM backstage apologises for what he did to Skinner but then goes on comparing himself with other men in the 3-name bracket, then singles out his hatred for DCT. Next week we have DCT taking on ADM in another match of the Lionheart League.
Next Grant McIvor takes on the Pharaoh of Filth, Stevie Boy. Fuck YESSS. Here we go lads! Stevie is here to get his title back at the end of the Lionheart League. There is too much to say about this match. Great in-ring work, great psychology, great submission work, great selling, awesome face vs heel dynamic, great high flying moments from Stevie. Awesome Destroyer but it doesn’t put McIver down, and massive running knee ends the match and Stevie Boy walks away the victor.
ICW tag Team Champions come out, Lou King Sharp and Krieger, Sharp is here to take on Jack Morris w/ Dickie Divers. The match starts in absolute chaos as Sharp attacks Divers on the outside and Krieger gets himself involved as well. Morris looks great and Sharp comes off as a proper shit-eating grin heel. Wonderful selling from both lads after Sharp hits a clothesline over the top rope to the outside. Morris picks up the win with what looked like a Samoan Drop but Kirkwood referred to it as a cutter. Either way, good match.
MAIN EVENT TIME Jason Reed with Coach Trip taking on DCT. Now it has been a while since I have followed DCT but I last seen him with Polo Promotions and with short hair and a stunning mustache but now we have a DCT that resembles an 80’s glam rock star but with a caveman-like leotard. It’s a big change and draws in the interest as to what kind of DCT we have now. Reed is a great athletic performer and his moves all have great emphasis on them. Coach is as great a manager as I remember and I am so happy to see him again. DCT shows a great feat of strength in getting out of one of Reed’s rear holds and turning it into a pedigree for the win.
Overall this is a fantastic show and excellent to see ICW back in action. Brings a smile to this Glasgow Mark’s face. I look forward to continuing down this road and hopefully being a part of it before too long.
Thank you and I hope you have enjoyed.
